Memories of ‘ef’

I was looking for a relatively new anime which is short enough to squeeze in my schedule. I found ef - a tale of memories.
The first thing I noticed in this series was the cinematography. I don’t know much about the kind of animation used in it but as far as the execution of scenes and blending of characters and background images are concerned, it was really good. I also like how it shifts from one story to another. Kei’s story feels too trite for my taste though. I’m more drawn to Renji and Chihiro’s story. It’s more fresh and engaging. I’m actually intrigued with the novel Chihiro is trying to write. In my opinion, it can easily pass as a very good short fiction. The female characters look pretty but, aside from the hairstyle and that eye-patch, they look pretty much the same.
Overall, it was good; not something that I would include in my top list but it was really entertaining.

Setsuna-san
one of the best drama anime of 2007 IMO.
the telephone booth scene at the end of ep 10 had me close to tears.

Chumara
Seconding what Setsuna-san said, but, it actually made my top list.

Choo, do watch it, it’s good and won’t take much of your time ^^
Setsuna & Chumara, yes I guess it’s one of the best among its contemporaries in ‘07 ^^

Oioi! Glad you like it! Happens to be my favorite show of all time ^_^ (as made evident by my blog’s title coming from the name of the show’s op).
Also, Setsuna, me too! And I cried a LOT in the last ep. First anime to make me shed more than 1 tear. (1 tear having been shed during Kanon and Eureka 7)

Personally, I didn’t really enjoy the story as much as the way it was animated. (For clarification, I reviewed this…lol)
(And yay my keyboard’s fixed! I can start typing your name as “shinji” na!)

One of the best anime I’ve watch, I reckon. Like you, I’m also into Chihiro & Renji story arc. Poignant but not cheesy territory.

digitalboy, there are lots of tear-jerking scenes indeed ^^
Coeli, I think the animation is one of its selling points. I haven’t read your review yet, I’ll check it later ^^
lanie-emon, yes poignant! that’s the best way to describe it. Chihiro FTW!^^

I really liked the art and animation style, though it can be an acquired taste since some got put off by it.
Chihiro and Renji’s story was the one that interested me most too. The storyline stays to the point and doesn’t go around in circles. The OP song is one of my favorites now. I also liked Kyosuke and his story, despite his limited screentime. xD
